Being in hospital can be a stressful time for children, especially those under 5 years of age. CHI aims to take much of that stress away through the positive benefits of play.  We recruit and train hundreds of volunteers annually to play with sick children.

This is how we use your funds:

€5 per month will help buy paints and crayons for a hospital playroom

€10 per month will help provide arts and crafts material for a playroom

€15 per month will help us to buy toys for a hospital playroom for a month

€20 per month will enable us to run and maintain a photocopier to copy drawing sheets for the playrooms

€25 per month will finance a volunteer in a hospital for a year

Playing with Children – it’s a simple concept with enormous benefits as children admitted to hospital are particularly vulnerable, both physically and emotionally.

    Research shows that play can:

Relieve stress. Play is fun and can trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.

Improve brain function. Playing chess, completing puzzles, or pursuing other fun activities that challenge the brain can help prevent memory problems and improve brain function. The social interaction of playing with family and friends can also help ward off stress and depression.

Stimulate the mind and boost creativity. Young children often learn best when they are playing. Play can also stimulate the imagination, helping a child adapt to a difficult often traumatic situation.
