- This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal information about you during and after your working relationship with us, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- It applies to clients, sub-contractors, clients, customers, contractors, employees, suppliers and network contacts.
Children In Hospital Ireland is a “data controller”. This means that we are responsible for deciding how we hold and use personal information about you. We are required under data protection legislation to notify you of the information contained in this privacy notice.
It is important that you read this notice, together with any other privacy notice we may provide on specific occasions when we are collecting or processing personal information about you, so that you are aware of how and why we are using such information.

“Special Categories of Personal Data” is any Personal Data that reveals racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade-union membership; genetic data or biometric data and data concerning health or sex life and sexual orientation.
Personal Data Collected and Processed
We collect and process Personal Data relating to you in connection with our relationship with you. This Personal Data includes:
- your name and contact details, including your address, phone number and email address if you have provided them to us;
- your bank details if you have a direct debit in support of our work
- your donation history, and any communications you have had with us via email or post
- any other Personal Data relating to you that you provide to us or that we generate about you in connection with our relationship with you, including records of any consent you have given and your use of the Children In Hospital website.
We also collect Special Categories of Personal Data in relation to children and families availing of our services. Information regarding children’s health and treatment is collected in order to assist Children In Hospital to meet the needs of those children and families.
Children In Hospital does not carry out automated decision making. We analyse the outcomes of our fundraising campaigns, appeals and engagement with you. This allows us to understand how our campaigns work, enables us to make appropriate requests from you and ensure that communications with you are relevant. We also carry out research on publicly available data to understand our different types of donors to support our fundraising strategy.
Technical Data Collected
When you visit the Children In Hospital website, we gather statistical and other analytical information collected on an aggregate basis of all visitors to our website. This non-personal data comprises information that cannot be used to identify or contact you, such as demographic information regarding, for example, user IP addresses where they have been clipped or anonymised, browser types and other anonymous statistical data involving the use of our website.

If you fail to provide personal information
If you fail to provide certain information when requested, we may not be able to perform the contract we have entered into with you (such as providing a benefit or service), or we may be prevented from complying with our legal obligations (such as to ensure the health and safety of our workers).
Use and Storage of your information
We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. If we need to use your personal information for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and we will explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.
Children In Hospital Ireland will process personal data during the duration of any contract and will continue to store only the personal data needed for 24 Months after the contract has expired to meet any legal obligations. After two years any personal data not needed will be deleted.
We use a secure server so that all supplied sensitive/payment information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted into our payment gateway provider’s database (Stripe Payments). When you make an online transaction, Stripe Payments provide us only with the following details: the final 4 digits of your card number, the card type and the expiry date. We do not see or store your full card details when you make an online transaction.
Children In Hospital Ireland takes and will continue to take, all reasonable steps (which includes relevant technical and organisational measures) to guarantee the safety of the data you provide to us and we will only use the data for the intended purpose.
However, the nature of the internet is such that we cannot guarantee or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us via the Internet will be 100% secure.
How we secure your personal data
